The Art of Herbal Perfume

For a fraction of the price spent on scents in department stores you can create your own perfume using all natural ingredients, no harmful chemicals. Each attendee will take a scent personality questionnaire, learn about essential oil notes for successful mixing, make roller ball perfume tailored to quiz results and individual preferences for take home. This class is 1.5 hours.

Ohio Herb Center Tea Society

Enjoy an evening of tea and herbal discussion with the Ohio Herb Center Tea Society. 

Learn proper infusion methods for a variety of teas, we will do virtual tastings of the featured tea, and discuss herbal topics.

The Tea Society will meet on the second Thursday of the month. A link will be provided for each virtual class.

Purchase includes class, an herb or tea blend featured each month, and a 30 minute discussion. Time for questions and conversation as well. This is a great way to expand your tea routine or learn about a variety of herbs.

Herbal Technique

A hands on exploration of creating with herbs using basic methods of preparation. In the first part of this series each participant will use their hands and feel their way through each technique, allowing them to walk away confident in their skills.

Each class goes step by step through the process learning the technique in a hands-on manner, limited to 8 students, handouts with general information will be provided, and surprise samples of what is made with occasional take homes. The class dates for this are as follows: March 21st, April 4th and April 18th. This is a 2 hour workshop.

Come apply knowledge to learn all about the variety of preparations that can be made with herbs.

Herb Gardening Basics

Are you new to gardening with herbs and looking for guidance? In this class we will explore different methods of incorporating herbs into your gardens or landscaping. We will talk about some basic herbs to start with that includes botanical information, and how to use each herb. Once we explore these herbs, we will discuss using different herbs as part of your existing landscaping. You can utilize your herbs in a way that brings contrast and design elements as well as replacing common landscaping plants. Ohio Herb Center staff will teach you how to incorporate herbs into your landscaping plans and which herbs are best suited. This class is a great way to kickstart your gardening for the season and think about herbs in a nontraditional way.

Ancestral Soapmaking

Join Dominique Flaksberg of Circular Bodies to learn the art of making soap. She will walk you through the history of soap making, using plant dyes, natural based scents and formulating your own soap. Everyone will receive a pdf of information covered in class plus make 1-3 bars of soap to take home.  This is a 3 hour workshop. Come learn this age old craft of creating your own soap.

Backyard Foragers

Answers to all those questions and more in this backyard foraging class. This class will take place partially in the classroom and partially in the gardens outdoors, weather dependent. Each participant will receive a handout with the information covered in class plus the opportunity to eat some fresh garden weeds. We will make a Backyard Weeds Tea for everyone to take home.

Foundations of Herb-Infused Oils

Join Jamie Hetzel of Dancing Woods Apothecary for the first class in this two-part series exploring the art and practice of crafting herb-infused oils for all-natural face and body care.

In this hands-on session, participants will learn three methods of making herb-infused oils:

•           The Folk Method

•           The Heat-infused Method

•           The Alcohol Intermediary Method

Jamie will cover plant, oil and butter selecting, methodology, and best practices to ensure effective, and potent infusions. Each participant will prepare an herb-infused oil during class to take home and finish infusing on their own.

Important note: This class lays the foundation for creating botanical oils to be used in salves, balms, lotions, and creams and prepares students for the second class in the series.

Formulation Basics: From Infused Oil to Finished Form

Join Jamie Hetzel of Dancing Woods Apothecary for the second class in this herbal body care series, where herb-infused oils are transformed into skin-nourishing topical remedies and self-care rituals.

In this class, participants will learn how to take a finished herb-infused oil and create salves, balms, lotions and creams. Jamie will cover formulation basics, waxes, emulsifiers, and best practices for crafting stable, skin-loving products. Each participant will leave with one salve or balm and one lotion or cream demoed during class.

Important note: This class does not cover how to make herb-infused oils. Participants who do not take Class One are advised to arrive with prior knowledge of herb-infused oil preparation.
